"The
European directive, 'Restriction of the
use of certain hazardous substances in
electrical and electronic equipment -
RoHS', not only bans lead but also the
substances: Mercury, cadmium, hexavalent
chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).
Naturally lead is in focus due to the
changes needed in the electronic manufacturing
processes. All electronic manufacturers
will have to adopt the directive if they
want to keep their worldwide businesses.
Reuse
and recycling of electronic waste is also
in focus worldwide. In the European Union
the directive, 'Waste electrical &
Electronic Equipment - WEEE', outline
new recycling legislation for the member
states."
